Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website with video and an online blog analysing portrayals women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate women about their roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the director of operations. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular media. In addition, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian, who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student Sarkeesian was concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women in the early stages. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games was targeted in the internet campaign. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. In fact, it increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critique. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She is also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture representations of females.
